Yvonne August

Yvonne August is one of the most dominant women's handball players of Northern California.   Playing her first tournament in 1982, she went on to win numerous local and national championships.  Yvonne excelled not only in 4-wall singles and doubles, but also in 3-wall competition.  She has three national title starting with a 1995 3-wall doubles with Beth Rowley.   Yvonne then went on to win the 2001 4-wall doubles title with Priscilla Shumate, beating the defending USHA and World Champion doubles team of Anna Christoff and LeaAnn Martin 21-20, 21-15.

 

At the 2004 Portland USHA Nationals, Yvonne beat Courtney Peixoto in the finals, winning the Women's Pro Singles division.  The USHA Handball Magazine said, 'August has the persistence, intensity, and tenacity to break anyone's concentration.  She has the ability to raise her power to exceed that of her opponent.  And, she has done it for a decade.'
