Burns Macdonald for almost fifty years has been the foundation of The University Of California Handball Program. His tireless and unpaid efforts over the years have included endless court instruction, behind the scene tournament directing, advising, fund raising, and much, much more.  

Burns has also assisted the Northern California Handball Association by serving as a board member, conducted intercollegiate handball tournaments and served as the Western Regional Handball Commissioner. His players have put the UC Handball program on the map.
